House Demolition & Tear-Down in Central Illinois

Insured — Certificate of Insurance emailed before we roll in. No surprises, no runaround.

An old house that's past saving becomes a liability — a place that draws trespassers, a fire risk, a tax line, and a hazard sitting in the way of what you'd rather do with the ground. When it's time to knock it down, you want it torn down, hauled, and the lot left clean.

Brohez Trucking LLC handles house demolition across central Illinois — old and abandoned farmhouses, teardown-for-rebuild jobs, fire-damaged homes, and houses that have simply outlived their use. Rural acreage, farmstead, or in-town lot.

Searching house demolition contractors near me and turning up outfits three counties away? We're based in Mattoon and work a 60-mile radius. Brohez Trucking LLC handles complete house, farmhouse, and foundation teardown, debris hauling, and smooth grading — all inside that radius. You deal with Levi, the man on the machine, not a call center, and the travel is built into your estimate instead of tacked on afterward. Call or text a photo during the workday and you get a straight number back the same day.

The Komatsu PC150LC handles the heavy work. The JCB mini and Takeuchi skid steer get into tight lots and clean up after. Dump trucks haul the lumber, drywall, shingles, and concrete straight to a proper disposal site. House standing to clean dirt is one job, one contractor.

If there's a basement or foundation under the house, we break it out, haul it off, and backfill the hole so the lot is usable again. Old farmhouse with a buried heating-oil tank out back? Our tank removal work handles that in the same mobilization. We're also straight about what's in the structure before we start, including any signs of asbestos in old siding, tile, or insulation.

Old Houses & Asbestos — The Plain-English Version

Homes built before about 1980 can carry asbestos in old siding, floor tile, pipe wrap, or insulation. It's common in farmhouses and it's manageable — it just has to be handled the right way, not knocked down and ignored.

When a house is old enough to warrant it, we coordinate the required inspection and the IEPA 10-day notification, and we don't cut corners on it. It's worth confirming the specifics with your local IEPA office, and we'll point you the right direction.

Our House Demolition Process

Every house is different. The basics don't change.

STEP 01

Site Walk & Estimate

We come look at the house, talk through what's coming down, check the basement, foundation, and what it's built from, and give you a straight number. No pressure.

STEP 02

Permits & Locates

Rural farmhouses often don't need a permit; in-town homes usually do. We help sort it out, call utility locates, and arrange to kill any power, gas, water, or sewer still running to the house.

STEP 03

Asbestos Check

If the house is old enough to warrant it, we coordinate the inspection and IEPA notification before anything comes down. We don't bulldoze first and ask questions later.

STEP 04

Controlled Tear-Down

The Komatsu works the house down in a controlled sequence — even a fire-damaged or sagging one. No dropping things toward the neighbor's place, the road, or the outbuildings.

STEP 05

Foundation & Basement

We break out the foundation, basement walls, and any old slab, separate metal for recycling, and load lumber and debris onto dump trucks for proper disposal.

STEP 06

Backfill & Grade

We backfill the basement hole, grade the footprint flat, and walk you through the finished work. Clean dirt — ready to rebuild, farm, or seed down.

Homes We Tear Down

If it's old, in the way, and shouldn't be standing, we can probably help.

Old & Abandoned Farmhouses

Worn-out farmhouses and abandoned homes torn down clean, foundation pulled, and the ground put back to use for the farm or a new build.

Teardown for Rebuild

Knock down the old house to make room for the new one — we leave a clean, graded pad ready for your builder to start fresh.

Fire-Damaged Homes

Burned and storm-damaged houses brought down safely, charred debris hauled off, and the lot cleared so you can move forward.

Basement & Foundation Removal

Old basements, foundation walls, footings, and slabs broken out, hauled, and backfilled so the lot is solid and usable again.

Mobile & Manufactured Homes

Single-wides, double-wides, and older manufactured homes demolished or hauled, with the pad cleaned up and graded.

Attached Garages & Additions

Attached garages, porches, breezeways, and old additions taken down with the house or on their own.

Full Site Cleanup

Once the house is down, we clear the whole footprint — old steps, sidewalks, wells, and junk — so the lot starts clean.

Full Debris Haul-Off

Lumber, drywall, shingles, trash, and concrete all hauled to a proper disposal site. You walk away with clean dirt, not a pile.

Building Back On The Same Ground?

A good share of house demolition isn't really a teardown — it's a rebuild that starts with a teardown. If a new house, a shop, or a garage is going back on that lot, say so on the first walk-through.

It changes how we do the work. Instead of just knocking the basement walls in, filling the hole, and grading it flat, we haul out the old foundation and footings, bring in clean fill, and compact it in lifts so the ground doesn't settle under a new slab or a new basement. We strip and stockpile the topsoil first so it goes back on top instead of getting buried. The pad comes out shot to grade and ready for the excavator, the concrete crew, or the post holes.

We also set the drainage and the new approach while we're there, so water leaves the building instead of standing against it. Laser grade on the D6N for the finish work. The machines are already sitting on the lot — doing it in one mobilization beats bringing a second outfit back out in the spring.

Building Pads

Compacted, graded, drained building pads — sized and shot to grade for your builder's plan.

Site Prep & Grading

Clearing, cut and fill, driveway and approach work, and finish grade — the whole lot ready for the next trade.

House Demolition FAQs

How much does it cost to tear down a house?

It depends on the size of the home, what it's built from, whether there's a basement or foundation to remove, how far we haul the debris, and access to the site. When you're comparing house demolition companies in central Illinois, check whether debris hauling, disposal, and backfill are all inside the quoted number — ours are. We give free on-site estimates with a straight number. Call (217) 809-0779.

Do I need a permit to knock down a house?

Most rural farmhouses outside city limits don't require a demolition permit. A house inside a town usually does. We'll tell you what's required, help you handle the paperwork, and call utility locates before anything comes down.

Can you tear down a fire-damaged house?

Yes. Fire-damaged homes are one of the more dangerous structures on a property — weakened framing and fallen debris. We approach it carefully with the Komatsu, bring it down in a controlled sequence, and haul off the burned debris properly. Don't go in there yourself — call us.

Will you remove the basement and foundation too?

Yes. If the job includes the basement, foundation walls, footings, or an old slab, we break it out, haul it off, backfill the hole, and grade the spot so you can rebuild, farm it, or seed it down.

Can you tear down a farmhouse to make room for a new build?

That's a common job. We knock down the old farmhouse, remove the foundation and basement, haul everything off, backfill, and leave you a clean, graded pad ready for the builder. Teardown-for-rebuild done right saves you trouble later.

Do you haul off all the house debris?

Yes. Full cleanup is part of the job — lumber, drywall, shingles, concrete, and trash hauled to a proper disposal site. We separate metal where it makes sense and leave you clean dirt, not a pile.

What about asbestos in an old house?

Homes built before about 1980 can carry asbestos in siding, floor tile, pipe wrap, or insulation. When a house is old enough to warrant it, we coordinate the required inspection and the IEPA 10-day notification and don't cut corners. It's worth confirming the specifics with your local IEPA office.

Can you tear the house down and build the pad for the new one?

Yes — and it's the cheaper way to do it. Tell us on the first walk-through that a new house, shop, or garage is going back on that ground. Instead of knocking the basement walls in and filling the hole, we haul out the old foundation and footings, bring in clean fill, and compact it in lifts so the ground doesn't settle under a new slab or basement. Topsoil gets stripped and stockpiled first so it goes back on top. We set the drainage and the new approach while we're there and leave the pad shot to grade. The machines are already on the lot, so one mobilization covers the teardown and the pad.
