Earthwork & Sitework, Built To The Civil Plans

Insured — Certificate of Insurance emailed to your office before we roll in. No surprises, no runaround.

General contractors, commercial developers, and institutional owners all need the same thing from a sitework sub — a crew that shows up with the right iron, moves the dirt to the civil plans, and hands over a clean, on-grade pad the building crews can start on. That's the work Brohez Trucking is built for.

We're a local, owner-operated excavation outfit based in Mattoon. We handle mass excavation and earthmoving, cut and fill, building pad prep, foundation excavation and backfill, site grading to spec, site utilities (storm, sanitary sewer, and water trenching), aggregate base and parking-lot subgrade, storm-water detention and retention basins, erosion and sediment control, and demolition and site clearing for redevelopment. We run a Komatsu PC150LC-6 excavator, a Cat D6N dozer, and our own tandem dump trucks — so we can dig, shape, and haul on one project without bringing in rented machines or stacking up subs waiting on each other.

This is commercial and non-union institutional sitework — schools, municipal buildings, light commercial and industrial. We'll be straight with you about what the job takes, the same as any other work we do. One local crew, one owner, real iron on the ground. Call (217) 809-0779 and ask for Levi — the man on the machine is the man you'll talk to.

A note on scope: we speak to what our equipment and crew can do — mass excavation, pad prep, foundation dig and backfill, grading, utility trenching, subgrade, basins, erosion control, and demolition. We don't claim credentials we don't carry; we'd rather walk the site with your superintendent and review the civil plans than oversell on paper. If a job needs paving, concrete flatwork, structural steel, or a licensed specialty subcontractor, we'll say so and point you the right direction.

Mass Excavation, Pad Prep & Sitework For Building Projects

The earthmoving, grading, utility, and drainage side of a commercial or institutional build — all from one local, owner-operated crew.

Mass Excavation & Earthmoving

Cut and fill, mass excavation, and earthmoving across the site — overburden stripped, dirt balanced or hauled, and the site brought down to working grade for the build.

Building Pad / Pad Prep

Building pads stripped, cut and filled to the staked grade, engineered fill or aggregate base placed and compacted, and finish grade shot — a clean, ready-to-build pad handed to the GC.

Foundation Excavation & Backfill

Footings and foundations dug to line and grade, dewatered if needed, then backfilled and compacted around the structure once the foundation crew is out.

Site Grading To Spec

Cut, fill, and finish grade shot to the staked elevations on the civil plans so the site drains right and the pad and lots are dead on grade the first time.

Site Utilities — Storm / Sewer / Water

Storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water service trenched and installed — proper bedding, line and grade, backfill, and compaction, with structures set and tied in.

Aggregate Base & Parking-Lot Subgrade

Parking-lot and drive subgrade cut and proof-rolled, aggregate base placed and compacted to spec, and the lot left on grade and ready for paving.

Storm-Water / Detention Basins

Detention and retention basins cut and shaped, drainage structures set, and the grade tied in so the storm water goes where the civil plan says it should.

Erosion & Sediment Control

Erosion and sediment control for the site — silt fence, rock check dams, seeding and matting prep, and grade work that holds the soil in place through the rain.

Demolition & Site Clearing

Demolition and site clearing for redevelopment — old structures, slabs, and brush taken down and hauled off so the lot is clear and ready to start.

Our Sitework Process

Every site is a little different. The basics don't change.

STEP 01

Send The Civil Plans Or Scope

Send the grading and utility plans, the scope, or a photo of the lot. We'll get a feel for the dirt before we ever roll out, and set up a time to look.

STEP 02

Site Walk & Straight Number

We walk the site with your superintendent, talk through cut and fill, pad, utilities, subgrade, drainage, and erosion control, and give you a straight number. No pressure.

STEP 03

Strip, Cut & Mass Excavate

Topsoil stripped and stockpiled, mass excavation and cut/fill to the staked grade, and dirt balanced or hauled — the right machine on the right part of the job.

STEP 04

Build The Pad & Dig Foundations

Building pad cut, filled, and compacted to grade; foundations and footings dug to line and grade; engineered fill and aggregate base placed where the plan calls for it.

STEP 05

Utilities, Subgrade & Drainage

Storm, sewer, and water trenched in and backfilled, parking-lot subgrade and aggregate base set, detention basins shaped, and erosion control kept up through the work.

STEP 06

Finish Grade & Walk It

Final grade shot and dressed, the pad and lots cleaned up, and we walk it with you against the civil plans so it's signed off and ready before we pull off.

Site Development FAQs

Do you sub the sitework for general contractors?

Yes. Subbing the dirt work for general contractors is exactly what we're built for — mass excavation, building pad prep, foundation excavation and backfill, site grading, utilities, and parking-lot subgrade. We run a Komatsu PC150LC-6 excavator, a Cat D6N dozer, and our own tandem dump trucks, so we dig, move, and haul on one project without renting in iron or stacking up other subs. Owner-operated — real iron, run by the guy who owns it.

Can you prep a building pad to grade and spec?

Yes. Pad prep is regular work for us — strip and stockpile topsoil, cut and fill to the staked grade, place and compact engineered fill or aggregate base, and shoot finish grade so the pad is ready for the concrete and steel crews. We hand the GC a clean, on-grade, ready-to-build pad and walk it with you against the plan before we pull off.

Do you do site utilities — storm, sewer, and water?

Yes. We trench and install site utilities — storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water service — with proper bedding, line and grade, backfill, and compaction, and tie the structures in. If a job calls for a licensed plumber or specialty tie-in, we'll say so and coordinate, but the trenching and earthwork side of the utilities is ours.

Do you build detention basins and handle erosion control?

Yes. We cut and shape storm-water detention and retention basins, set drainage structures, and run erosion and sediment control for the site — silt fence, rock check dams, seeding and matting prep, and grade work that holds the soil in place through the rain. Site grading to spec is part of the same job.

Are you ready to sub our commercial or institutional sitework?

We're equipped and ready to sub the sitework on commercial and institutional building projects — schools, municipal buildings, light commercial and industrial. We speak to capability, not credentials we don't hold: we'll tell you straight what our iron and crew can take on, and we're glad to walk the site with the GC, developer, or owner and review the civil plans before we ever put a number to it. We do commercial and non-union work.
