Earthwork For Public Roads, Built To The Plan

Insured — Certificate of Insurance emailed before we roll in. No surprises, no runaround.

Township road commissioners, county engineers, and municipal road departments all need the same thing — a crew that shows up with the right iron, builds the road or sets the culvert to the plan, and leaves it draining and holding. That's the work Brohez Trucking is built for.

We're a local, owner-operated excavation outfit based in Mattoon. We build and regrade township and county roads, cut and shape ditches, pull shoulders back, install culverts and box culverts to IDOT spec, grade sites to spec, handle erosion and sediment control, and cut detention and retention basins. We run a Komatsu PC150LC-6 excavator, a Cat D6N dozer, and our own tandem dump trucks — so we can dig, shape, and haul on one project without bringing in rented machines or another contractor's drivers.

MFT (Motor Fuel Tax) road projects, prevailing-wage work, county-engineer lettings, and municipal site work are all welcome. We'll be straight with you about what the job takes, the same as any other work we do. One local crew, one owner, real iron on the ground. Call (217) 809-0779 and ask for Levi — the man on the machine is the man you'll talk to.

A note on scope: we speak to what our equipment and crew can do — building roads, setting culverts to spec, grading, ditching, drainage structures, erosion control, and basins. We don't claim credentials we don't carry; we'd rather walk the site with the engineer or road commissioner and show you the iron than oversell on paper. If a job needs paving, striping, or a specialty subcontractor, we'll say so and point you the right direction.

Road, Culvert & Drainage Work For Townships And Counties

The earthmoving, culvert, grading, and drainage side of public works — all from one local, owner-operated crew.

Township & County Road Building

Road building and regrading, crown and profile cut back to grade, base shaped and rock spread — township and county roads put back the way the plan calls for.

Shouldering & Ditching

Shoulders pulled and built back up, roadside ditches cut and cleaned to line and grade so water leaves the road instead of sitting on it.

IDOT-Spec Culvert & Box-Culvert Installation

Road, driveway, and field-entrance culverts and box culverts set to plan and IDOT spec — proper bedding, line and grade, backfill, and compaction, with the road or entrance tied back in.

Grading & Site Grading To Spec

Grading and earthmoving for municipal site work and road projects — cut, fill, and finish grade shot to the staked elevations so it's right the first time.

Erosion & Sediment Control

Erosion control on the project — silt fence, rock check dams, seeding and matting prep, and grade work that holds the soil in place through the rain.

Detention & Retention Basins

Detention and retention basins cut and shaped, drainage structures set, and the grade tied in so the water goes where the plan says it should.

Drainage Structures & Storm Work

Inlets, headwalls, pipe runs, and drainage structures dug in and backfilled — the underground side of keeping a road or site dry.

Material Haul-In & Haul-Off

Spoil and millings hauled off, rock, fill, and stone hauled in — our own tandem dump trucks, our own drivers, local routes.

Our Road & Site Process

Every road and site is a little different. The basics don't change.

STEP 01

Send The Plan Or Letting

Send the plan sheet, the letting, or a photo of the road or site. We'll get a feel for the scope before we ever roll out, and set up a time to look.

STEP 02

Site Walk & Straight Number

We walk the road or site with the engineer or commissioner, talk through grade, culverts, drainage, and erosion control, and give you a straight number. No pressure.

STEP 03

Stake, Cut & Build

Working to the staked line and grade — road built and regraded, shoulders and ditches cut, culverts and box culverts set to IDOT spec with the right machine for the job.

STEP 04

Haul & Place Material

Spoil hauled off, rock and fill hauled in and spread, and material placed and compacted — all on our own tandem dump trucks.

STEP 05

Drainage & Erosion Control

Drainage structures and basins finished, erosion and sediment control set, and the grade tied in so water leaves the road and the soil stays put.

STEP 06

Finish Grade & Walk It

Final grade shot and dressed, the site cleaned up, and we walk it with you against the plan so it's signed off and right before we pull off.

Public Works FAQs

Do you do township and county road work?

Yes. Township and county road work is right in our wheelhouse — road building and regrading, shouldering, ditching, and culvert installation. We run a Komatsu PC150LC-6 excavator, a Cat D6N dozer, and our own tandem dump trucks, so we can build, shape, and haul on a road project without renting in iron. Owner-operated — real iron, run by the guy who owns it.

Can you install culverts to IDOT spec?

Yes. We install road, driveway, and field-entrance culverts and box culverts to the plan and IDOT spec — proper bedding, line and grade, backfill, and compaction. We build culverts to spec; we set the structure and tie the road or entrance back in so it drains and holds.

Will you take MFT or prevailing-wage projects?

Yes — Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) road projects, prevailing-wage work, and county-engineer lettings are welcome. We're set up to do the work and keep the paperwork straight. Call (217) 809-0779 and talk to the owner about the letting or scope you've got.

Do you build detention and retention basins?

Yes. We cut and shape detention and retention basins, install drainage structures, and handle erosion and sediment control on the site — silt fence, rock, seeding prep, and grade work that holds the ground in place. Site grading to spec is regular work for us.

Are you ready to bid county lettings and municipal site work?

We're equipped and ready for county lettings and municipal site work — grading, earthmoving, culverts, ditching, and drainage structures. We speak to capability, not credentials we don't hold: we'll tell you straight what our iron and crew can take on, and we're glad to walk the site with the engineer or road commissioner before we ever put a number to it.
